New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has a new Strategic Plan for State Forest Management. Key goals of the plan are ecosystem health and diversity, economic benefits, recreational opportunities, forest conservation and sustainable management. The plan evolved in part from public commentary including over 3000 written comments and 9 public hearings. The state's current management practices earned us recognition as "green certified" status in 2008 from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).
