NYSERDA's latest Energy Efficient Appliance Rebates went fast! Something like buying Stones tickets in the 80's or an iPhone in the 00's. Last Monday, March 19th, $3.5 million in federal funds became available to New York residents for the purchase of high-efficiency ENERGY STAR refrigerators and clothes washers. This funding is being provided by the U.S. Department of Energy's State Energy Program and has been administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). As of Wednesday the 23rd the NYSERDA site was updated to say that all the funding was spoken for. NYSERDA offers that any new applications will be kept on a waiting list in case some already submitted applications are rejected due to lack of documentation. The $350 rebates were available for high-efficiency refrigerators and $250 for high-efficiency clothes washers that meet the Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) super-efficiency levels. (Check out www.cee1.org for more detail about super-efficiency refrigerators and clothes washers. Consider using this site as a cheat sheet to choose your next appliance).
Rebates were awarded on a first-come, first-served basis for complete applications, if you would like to be on the waiting list go to www.NYSApplianceRebates.com or call 1-877-NY-SMART.
Research and planning for the next purchases and being ready to move on a dime can pay off in this swirl of energy rebates!
The New Construction Program (NCP) can provide assistance when incorporating energy-efficiency measures into the design, construction, and operation of new and substantially renovated buildings. Incentives are available for the purchase and installation of energy-efficient equipment that reduces electric energy consumption in new and substantially renovated buildings.

Please find below a link to the long-awaited ClimAID report (Responding to Climate Change in New York State) produced in a joint effort between Columbia University, Cornell University and Hunter College and funded by NYSERDA. It's only 600 pages ;), but chock full of very interesting cutting edge information on the projected effects of climate change in New York including effects on flooding, ecosystems and coastal hazards. The website doesn't list the chapter titles so I've attached the introduction section where you can find the table of contents to download specific chapters as well as background on the effort. After Superstorm Sandy hit the northeast and left millions without power, and by default, heat, for nearly two weeks, it’s time for government to rethink the power grid infrastructure that was crippled by both nature and outdated technology. Together with the Pace Energy and Climate Center and Joule Assets Inc.,

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is seeking proposals for facilitation services to support the West Valley Citizen Task Force near the Western New York Nuclear Service Center in West Valley, NY. The Task Force has been meeting for fourteen years, providing advice to NYSERDA and DOE regarding cleanup and long-term management of facilities located at the Center. Continued success of the CTF will be, in part, dependent on securing the services of a highly-qualified, professional facilitator with experience in group facilitation.
