NYSDOT's Air Quality Action Day (AQAD) program specialist is looking for additional state agencies that would participate in AQAD alerts.
Christa Ippoliti, the NYSDOT AQAD program lead person, describes the program as "...,the AQAD program sends out alerts on days when air quality is forecasted to be poor. To do their part, NYSDOT asks that NYSDOD maintenance works limit their use of small engines (mowers, trimmers, etc.) on AQAD to reduce the amount of pollution emitted. Additionally, we post AQAD alerts on VMS signs in affected areas to alert drivers and ask them to reducing driving on AQADS."
It would be helpful to expand the program by encouraging other state agencies to sign up for AQAD alerts so they are made aware of the AQAD, and could then take actions to reduce their driving/emissions.
If you would like to get in touch with Christa about AQAD alerts, please contact her
Thanks,
