What is unwasteNY℠?
New Yorkers are spending more and more to power our homes and businesses every year, yet without realizing it, 25 percent of the energy we pay for, we waste.  unwasteNY is a free public service that brings New Yorkers together to reduce our energy waste, so that we can all live more resourcefully. By illuminating energy use we can help homeowners and businesses eliminate energy waste.

How does it work?
This site contains information, resources, and tools for New Yorkers to learn about energy use and set a personal goal to reduce energy waste. You can find out how to reduce your energy waste by modifying everyday behaviors, and making some easy changes to your home. You can find financial incentives and rebate programs to help you save money as you make changes to save energy. You can even create a custom plan to unwaste your home, and connect with other New Yorkers, in the Unwaste Network, who are doing the same.

What is the Unwaste℠ Network?
The Unwaste Network is a community of homeowners, renters, business owners and energy experts from across the state who are committed to reducing the amount of energy they waste. This network allows us to learn from each other, share experiences and simple actions, consult with energy experts, and get help staying on track to save money and live more resourcefully.  As a public service for all New Yorkers, it’s free to join. Together we can turn off, replace, unplug and unwaste.

Why do we need to unwaste?
With current growth trends, electricity usage is estimated to be nearly 13 percent higher by 2015 than it is today.  But New York has a goal to reduce energy use by 15 percent. That’s enough savings to eliminate the amount of carbon dioxide pollution in the air equal to the amount produced by all registered cars in New York City for one year.

Why should you join?
The Unwaste Network is about living more resourcefully. In addition to the benefits of saving energy and money, you will be setting a good example in your community, establishing good habits in your household and connecting with your friends and neighbors. You’ll be a part of New York’s energy solution.
