On Saturday, July 23 over 300 cars came to City Hall in Beacon within 4 hours to drop off broken electronics for recycling. The massive turnout was unpredicted. The staff of Advanced Recovery Inc. which sponsored the event, handled the influx marvelously despite the 90 degree heat. The event was organized by Zero to Go, and co-sponsored by the City of Beacon, the Mayor's office, and the Conservation Advisory Committee.

People who dropped off their items were relieved to have a place to bring them locally for responsible recycling. Some had seen the signs that went up in Beacon on Thursday and scrambled to get ready, and many had heard of the event weeks beforehand through media outlets and local businesses. Most were from Beacon, and others came from Fishkill, Wappingers Falls and Newburgh. One couple came all the way from Forestburgh, an hour west of Beacon. Over 20,000 pounds of electronics were collected.

Zero to Go will be organizing a future event in Beacon, open to all in the area, with the continued support of the City of Beacon, the Mayor's office, and the Conservation Advisory Committee.
