Clearwater Honored With The Omega Institute's Leadership in Sustainable Education Award

300_Jeff_Rumpf_Skip_Backus_Clearwater_omegaThe Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, home of so many green initiatives including the Omega Center for Sustainable Living, is furthering their great green work by offering an annual award to environmental education groups.  The Sloop Clearwater gathers the first $10,000 Leadership in Sustainable Education Award for their work raising awareness about the beauty, biodiversity, challenges and activisim on The Hudson River.

The grant will help fund Clearwater’s Green Cities Initiative supporting and educating Hudson River communities on how to incorporate principles of sustainability into municipal and community planning. The Green Cities initiative also calls upon civic and political leaders to consider the environmental impact of long-term policy and infrastructure decisions and how they may affect the health of Hudson River and the long-term economic vitality of the region.

Clearwater will also receive an organizational development grant for a strategic planning retreat at Omega, to help strengthen their organization and further its mission. Clearwater will also be honored at Omega’s annual Design By Nature conference, October 19–21, 2012.
