The plan to extend the South County Trailway through Van Cortlandt Park is in peril

Just as NYC Parks is ready to roll out the long planned, paved extension of the South County trail though Van Corlandt Park in the Bronx, a  group of runners has protested the plan and caused delays.  Instead of the planned wide paved trail with a parallel running trail - they want only a narrower trail of crushed rock.  In other words, a trail that is good for runners - but nobody else.

A paved trail is what cyclists and non runners need to connect the 50 mile North and South County trails to New York City.  The  extension will allow cyclists from Westchester and Putnam to safely and easily connect to NYC's growing network of bike lanes and transit. It also brings cyclists closer to the West Side pathway in Inwood.

Please sign the petition, calling on New York City to move forward with the original plan.  The goal is for 2,000 signatures. As of, April 25, we have 665 signatures. Sign today - and then circulate the link through your social media networks.

The Bike Walk Alliance unites cyclists and pedestrians to work together to make walking and cycling safer and easier in Westchester and Putnam Counties. Visit our website at
