Call to Action
The Hudson Valley region is rich with preserved land, fresh water, agriculture and local creative economies – rich and attractive to diverse interests including new population and industry. As the region completes its “Cleaner, Greener Communities” plan for sustainable development, it is timely for all interested parties to gather for a fresh look at ways to work together. Facing climate change and other “black swan” stresses, we must access new creativity to meet our challenges and bounce back better together.
Two inspired keynote speakers will showcase local success models and share lessons learned:

Featured Speakers
Anders Ferguson is a founding principal of Veris Wealth Partners and a seasoned entrepreneur and financier who has been effective in building sustainable companies and nonprofits since 1978. Anders is Chair of Friends of The Oberlin Project, Oberlin College. The Oberlin Project is a visionary partnership led by Oberlin College and the City of Oberlin with many collaborators, aiming to make this small Rust Belt college town carbon neutral by 2020 and using this initiative to attract creative enterprise. He is Marketing Director of Veris Wealth Partners, an independent advisory serving investors who care as much about investment performance as using their wealth to positively impact society. A pioneer in impact investing, Veris provides individuals, families and foundations strategies that align their wealth with their values and mission. Anders is a co-founder of the Dalai Lama Fellows. He advises the Democracy Collaborative and Evergreen Cooperatives initiative in Cleveland,OH. Anders graduated from Oberlin College with a B.A. in History and Environmental Studies.
Randall Solomon co-founded and now co-directs Sustainable Jersey, a membership organization of New Jersey municipalities offering resources and support to advance their sustainability efforts. Prior to this he was the founder and Executive Director of the New Jersey Sustainable State Institute at Rutgers where he worked to expand the capacity of public decision making to address sustainability. Mr. Solomon’s policy experience includes positions as a policy advisor on sustainable development for the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities integrating land use and energy policy, director of the States Campaign for the Resource Renewal Institute in San Francisco, and policy director for the non-profit New Jersey Future. He writes and speaks frequently on sustainable development, land use policy, using indicators in public decision making, and governance issues.

The curriculum also emphasizes safety, teamwork and professional communication skills.

Associate in Applied Science Degree
Provides SUNY Sullivan students with the skills and knowledge needed to maintain and manage high-performance commercial buildings.
New construction and existing buildings that have upgraded energy systems rely on sustainable technology. Recent emphasis on green technologies and LEED-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building standards support the use of alternative forms of energy as well as the use of sustainable products for construction, interior design and building maintenance. In addition to learning the most current theories, students will acquire the hands-on training needed to work with rapidly evolving technologies including photovoltaic cells, wind generators and geothermal heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Potential career options include energy and indoor air quality auditor, HVAC operations and maintenance technician, solar and wind energy technician, and green building, renewable energy and energy efficiency consultant.
